Europe finally meets Meta AI: Defeating Regulatory hurdles
It was announced on Thursday by Meta that the US tech giant is going to function in Europe as commented by Meta in a blog post;
“It’s taken longer than we would have liked to get our AI technology into the hands of people in Europe as we continue to navigate its complex regulatory system – but we’re glad we’re finally here,”
Meta AI was released in September 2023 in the US and started planning to take the expansion to Europe. But it was halted temporarily because of some regulatory unpredictability raised by the European Union when Ireland’s privacy watchdog criticized the training on content posted by Facebook and Instagram users.
Recently, Meta has declared that it’s AI assistant started functioning as a chatbot in Europe to help in creating brainstorming ideas, answering questions, planning tours, and so on. The first release of Meta AI will be available for up to 41 European countries along with 21 overseas territories.
The starting roll out will incorporate all big messaging platforms including Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and so on. So, users will use the tool for the texting section only, and not for other functions i.e. video-editing, generating images, or asking about visual content. You can access it by tapping the blue circle icon and exploring a new world of information.
As we know, people use direct messaging functions to interact with Meta AI and make their day easier and smoother. So, for Europe, Meta AI has offered AI features to its Ray-Bans smart glasses, but it failed to support multimodal features. But Meta AI is claiming to work with European and the US as well.
A new feature call on Meta AI in your group chats is also rolling out for Messenger, Instagram, and Direct Messaging. You need only to type “@MetaAI” followed by the prompt or chat in your group, and wait for a reply. Quickly brainstorm dinner or trip ideas, attend a debate, or just for fun with the help of Meta AI. You can use the giant with the support of multiple languages including English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and so on.
